Well, what can I say! I've just finished walking the West Highland Way - 8 hours outdoors every day for 8 days. I used this body spray and no midge bites to be seen. None of the other 5 in the group got bitten either, and the midges were quite active while we were there. I'll use it again the next time I go to Scotland - I've still got a whole spray canister unused!
Skin So Soft is a Best Seller we all know that ( well the ones that have tried it do anyway)
However with each passing year of using this product I find it that the uses of it are gathering momentum albeit it was never intended for use in the way i find it works below! it is quite amazing really
This product is great! I do think that Avon have come up trumps here
1. it seems fantastic for us to stop the midges and flies biting and landing on you
2: I know that horses benefit from this product and also dont have flies around them
3: I have just learned that it even works for Pigs :)
4: I use this on my Dog to help stop the moult from hair ( and the doggie Smell ) on my Labrador and it does also seem to stop the flies while she is laying out in the sun. She has dry skin and as long as i use just a little spray over her top coat and brush in well not only does it seem to help her dry skin patches but one thing it does do is to keep all the lose hair on the brush and stop it flying around and getting up your nose :( and does not leave her coat greasy she just smells so good and her coat has a shine
5: I have learned recently that it also helps your skin stay tanned after your holidays as it moisturises the skin through the holidays if used AFTER you have been in the sun
6.It is the best Skin Moisturiser around and one of the most affordable
I would be interested to find anyone that has discovered more uses for this incredible product I know it does NOT work for everyone to stop bites more especially if you are using HRT or taking HRT as the body apparently gives off some sort of smell from the pores of the skin and in the perspiration that causes Midges and Mossies to like to bite but for the most part this product does seem to work for many things
Hope this was useful to some people out there who have pet pigs - horses - or just like to be able to wear shorts and not get bitten :)
I love to go walking around the lakes and reservoirs in the Pentland Hills, what I don't like though is getting eaten alive by midges, horseflies and all other manners of flying or crawling biting beasties. I had heard about skin so soft but never tried it before, and after getting bitten to hell the other week I thought I would give it a go.
So glad I did, this worked extremely well for me. I would assume that how well it works will also depend on how attractive you are to biting insects. Some folk are just more attractive to them, and I could imagine the urge to bite you versus the repelling power of this spray may not win out in your favour.
The spray itself has a very pleasant odour, goes on easily and absorbs really well into the skin. I sprayed this on first then added sunscreen and even after spending a whole day out in the hills on the sunniest day of the year this didn't interfere with the sunscreen. It also kept the midges away. I wanted to ensure that the spray was working and it wasn't just a coincidence so I decided to spray only one arm and one leg.
The arm and leg that was sprayed lasted the whole day without getting a single bite. The arm and leg that wasn't sprayed quickly became a smorgasbord for what seemed like every single horsefly at Harlaw Reservoir. It got so bad that after 40 minutes I decided I had to spray the rest of my body after which I went the whole day without getting bitten again.
I would recommend that you reapply this as often as you would reapply sunscreen, especially in hot weather where you may be sweating.
I also used this on my dauh=ghter who has really bad eczema, I did a patch test as a lot of sunscreens and sprays can really aggravate her skin. I'm glad to say that Skin So Soft did not react in any way with her skin.
This is now my go to anti midge spray. It really does keep them away and having nice soft skin is a side effect that even this gruff man can live with
Everyone raved about this product as a mosquito repellent but it doesn't seem to work on me. Even friends in Oman asked me to bring it over for them as they swear by it - they were ok but I got eaten alive; so much so that I had to take some antihistamines as my wrist and elbow swelled up like a balloon. So I guess they might work for others but not for me.
To be honest, if I wasn't going to use it to repel mozzies or midges, then I would never use it on my body as a body spray. It smells really strong and chemically, and isn't something I'd use cosmetically.
Has turned my summers around - I used to spend every summer dreading the next bite. Mozzies adore me, as do the horseflies, and I have really violent reactions to every bite, meaning that my summers used to be full of itchy, painful, swollen misery. I once got bitten 150 times on my legs alone on holiday in Cuba; got bitten on my scalp, soles of my feet and between my fingers in Fiji; inside my ear in the Malaysian jungle; and through a pair of linen trousers by a horsefly in dear old Blighty!
The first time I used this, in a B&B overlooking a Venetian canal with the windows open on a hot, humid night (prime biting scenario), I woke up with just one solitary bite. Normally, under such circumstances, I would have been covered in itchy red weals in the morning. My husband, who normally escapes unscathed because they all go for me instead, had about 10 bites!
From that point on and for the rest of our 10 night holiday, we both drenched ourselves in the stuff and I was amazed at how little we were both bitten (I'm such a magnet for the little b*ggers, I would have expected a few bites no matter how good the repellent was). Since then, whenever I remember to use it, I have a much, much easier time of it (I'm a dog walker, so spend all day every day outdoors in the kind of places - woods, rivers, meadows etc - that I would usually get bitten to pieces in).
